Nick Bell co-hosted a Cultures of Resilience seminar at Central Saint Martins on 1 July with fellow UAL Chair Ezio Manzini. The event is the last step in the Cultures of Resilience (CoR) meta-project. Presented at the seminar were examples of art and design contributions to processes of community building that can counter current trends weakening communities-in-place and help enable conditions for the kind of encounters that evolve towards new social forms. This included a presentation by Nick Bell and Fabiane Lee-Perrella of Early Lab's work with the NHS. The seminar was an act of collective reflection and provided an opportunity to discuss how in our current context, art and design is collaborating to rebuild communities-in-place. UAL participants included: Dilys Williams (LCF); Becky Early, Marsha Bradfield, Neil Cummings (Chelsea); Lorraine Gamman, Adam Thorpe (CSM); Alison Prendiville (LCC). External participants included: Terry Irwin, Gideon Kossoff (Carnegie Mellon University); Clare Brass (Royal College of Art); Jan Stael von Holstein, Francesca Valsecchi (Tongji University); Andrew Simms (New Weather Institute); Molly Conisbee (Bristol University); Ilpo Koskinen (Hong Kong Polytechnic).
